Temptations

So I was looking through the Duncan's Dropbox folder, looking for any photos I hadn't used, and I discovered that a certain sibling has been tormenting him with food. Very glad he's so good at "Leave it"!

First there were the chicken fingers and sweet potato fries:

Then some chili. I hope he didn't get any of this - it was a bit hot!

The chili-mooching must have been right after wrapping some Christmas gifts, because he seems to have some tape stuck to his face:

Getting Ready for Erin

About a week before Christmas, strange things started happening. Duncan was a bit disturbed when we tried to take all the sheets off one of his napping spots. He defended them valiantly:

But eventually we managed to change them and remake the bed. He was so tired he had to lie down for a nap.

It was all worth it, though, because his big sister Erin came home, and he lets her sleep in "their" bed.

More Wascally Wabbits

For years, we've had rabbits living under our deck. Both Duncan and Kerry have always enjoyed sniffing around for them. But Duncan really gets into the chase! Here are a couple of short videos of him on the hunt a few weeks ago:

After the Ice Storm

We got off quite lightly in Ice Storm 2013 – relatively little freezing rain, and no power outages. So we just spent a couple of days tucked in at home until they got the roads back to normal. Duncan, who does enjoy a good hunk of ice, explored the backyard:

Then he curled up by the fireplace to dry off:

After the storm, there were lots of excellent sticks to pick up on our walks:

We were eventually able to persuade him that this should be an outside stick...

... and that this one was just a bit too big to bring home at all!

Merry Christmas!

In a way, this was Duncan's first real Christmas. Last year he had trips to the vet both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and wasn't allowed to put any weight on his leg, so it was hard to take full advantage of the excitement. This year, he enjoyed it much more.

Duncan's new frisbee
He's been a (pretty) good boy (most of the time) this year, so Santa left him a stocking full of treats and he got lots of new toys. His favourite was an elephant that Grandma gave him. He rolled around wrestling it under the tree:

There was one slight mishap, in which my little angel was kidnapped and developed a bald spot:

Christmas dinner was fun for Duncan, because his cousin Taz came. It was less fun for Taz, because she is getting older and doesn't like annoying puppies. She considered Duncan extremely annoying when he pestered her to play with him. I wish we'd managed to get a photo of her exasperated growl!

By the end of the day, Duncan was a very tired little boy:

By the way, that's the same table he used to climb through as a tiny puppy. Hard to believe!

Icing - The Sequel

Oops, this was supposed to go up on the 23rd, but the scheduling thingy didn't work...

A little while ago, I posted a video of Duncan climbing on the ice on the pool cover. Then I discovered why he keeps doing it.

You see, Duncan doesn't really like drinking from his water dish. He likes bathtubs. Home bathtubs, or away bathtubs. Or even camping substitute bathtubs. At a pinch, he's recently discovered the toilet.

And he also likes ice. In the summer he got ice cubes sometimes, and thought they were real treats. I guess he misses them, because he's started his own ice collection:

These are all pieces of ice he collected from the pool and stashed in a corner of the garden for later. I've promised him that I'll give him occasional ice cubes again if he'll stop collecting it from the pool. He's thinking about it.

Getting Ready for Christmas

It's been way too long since we had any Duncan updates here. And I have a nice big backlog of photos and a video or two. So let's try for a post a day for the rest of 2013, shall we?

Duncan has been very puzzled by all the Christmas preparations that have been going on around here. This time last year, of course, he was just a tiny puppy with a broken leg, so he didn't understand much about Christmas. But this year, he's into everything.

A couple of weeks ago, Duncan spotted something strange happening outside.

He moved to the other window to see better, but it still looked pretty suspicious.

It turned out that Daddy had taken leave of his senses – again! – and was stringing coloured things on Duncan's trees and bushes. Well, a guy can't allow that, can he? Duncan barked and barked, but Daddy just laughed at him and kept on. Embarrassing. But Duncan has finally decided that Christmas lights are okay.
