Yesterday was a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day worthy of Alexander himself. (Do you kids remember the many, many times I read that book to you?) Duncan was playing with his toys in living room yesterday morning when he somehow fell over and started screaming. We headed off to the vet, where as usual he got lots of attention and sympathy as well as great care. (I could tell he was going to be well looked after when Dr. Susan told him they were going to the back to see "Auntie Erin" for x-rays!)
The x-ray showed the problem - he broke the tibia in his right hind leg. The sedative that he got for the x-ray knocked him right out, so he didn't even notice the nice Christmas splint Erin put on his leg.
And he was such a good little guy - despite his reputation for puppy-nipping with a mouth full of razor blades at home, he didn't snap or nip at all when he was hurt.
He's had a pretty good night, waking up yelping a few times but quickly soothed back to sleep each time. He absolutely gobbles down his pain pills (or at least the pill pockets they're hidden in). Later this morning he has an appointment with an orthopedic specialist in Mississauga, and we'll find out if he needs surgery to pin the bone.
Keeping this active little guy quiet for several weeks is going to be a challenge!
Overzealous little monkey! Give him extra pill pockets between actual pills.
